Most people opt for what is going on in trends, whether it is about skincare, beauty, or fashion. And it is not a bad thing. But do you ever think what’s beneficial for you, what suits you better?

The skincare routine you are doing every day. Is it suitable for your skin? Or are you just doing it because that famous YouTuber or TikToker was raving about it? Or maybe it is that trending skincare routine that promises you glowing skin like celebrities?

These are some questions we all should ask ourselves before following any trend or advice. Always put yourself first.

Now let us look at things you should do. Which brings us to what is skinimalism? Simply put, skinimalism is skin minimalism. In which less is more. To further understand it, keep reading!!

Minimalism Or Minimalist?

When I talk about minimalism, we are focusing more on the aspect of skincare rather than on makeup or other elements. For understanding skinimalism better, let’s look at why you should do minimalism or practice being a minimalist:

  • It saves you money.
  • It would save a lot of your time.
  • It is beneficial for the environment and the planet earth.
  • It focuses on using fewer products possible.
  • It is healthier for your skin.
  • It promotes natural aspects of yourself.
  • It rarely causes potential skin irritation.
  • It is more manageable.

Let’s Look At What Is Skinimalism?

Skinimalism in literal means using minimal for your skin. But we can also define it as buying fewer products and stop doing unnecessary things.

It is not about perfection but about being natural and healthier. Its practices focus better on simplicity, valuable ingredients, and a concise skincare regimen.

Skinimalism promotes quality over quantity. This skincare trend is not your average trend about just getting a healthy glow but also being attentive towards the welfare of the environment without all these unnecessary steps and product usage.

To achieve a glowing and healthy complexion, you don’t need to use dozens of products at once. The concept of perfect skin is unachievable. And people are educating themselves against intricate skincare routines.

As the years go by, the skincare industry is developing a simple, targeted, and natural approach towards the skin by appreciating actual skin with imperfections like blemishes, wrinkles, pores, skin texture, etc.

Skin Minimalism And Minimalist Skincare:

Now, how can you associate skinimalism with minimalistic skincare? To achieve skin minimalism, skincare is one way. And minimalist skincare is all about:

  • Using hybrid products, meaning focus on choosing versatile products containing multi-function ingredients
  • Using products good for planet earth
  • Stop using sheet masks, toners, and mists because their results are temporary and can be skipped in your skincare routine.
  • Instead of using eye creams, use moisturizer because both work the same.
  • Eye creams are unnecessary and wasteful.
  • Only use products and steps essential for your skin.
  • Focus on your skin concern and try to combat it by selecting products that have multi-benefits to withstand various problems at once
  • Look for cruelty-free brands and products that combine multiple elements in one product.
  • Cutting down on your skincare routine and staying on only what your skin needs
  • Try to use natural, organic, even homemade or DIY products.

Focus on one thing at a time and get that natural glow by using all these practices for results that last and are safe for the environment.

The Minimalist Skincare Routine:

In this article, I included what exactly makes a minimalist skincare routine. And why you should follow minimalism.

If you think skinimalism is about airbrushed looks or gleaming skin, then you are wrong. It is more about taking care of your natural skin and a healthier lifestyle for you and your surroundings.

Creating a skincare routine by cutting back on things that don’t give lasting results and getting clear of useless elements without sacrificing your skin’s health. We can divide a substantial minimalist skincare routine into three main parts that are:

1. Cleaning and Exfoliating:

Start with a cleanser with mild exfoliating properties for removing impurities, dirt, or makeup residue. You can also use AHA containing exfoliators for removing dead skin cells.

Choose a cleanser formula depending on your skin type. If you have oily and acne-prone skin, a foaming cleanser may suit you better. Whereas if you have dry and sensitive skin, a cleansing cream or lotion would be more suitable for you.

Select a gentle product on your skin that doesn’t strip you of your natural facial oils. Also, a product that contains few ingredients possible for lesser possibilities of reaction. Avoid cleansers that comprise exfoliants too rough for your skin.

2. Treatment For Individual Skin Concern:

In this step, you can target your specific skin concerns, for instance, acne, hyperpigmentation, blackheads, etc. For the cure of your skin problem, you can choose products possessing ingredients made for fighting that skin concern.

For example, to treat acne, use products containing salicylic acid. Use hyaluronic acid and Vitamin E and C infused serums to boost hydration and to maintain the PH level or balance of your skin. And Antioxidants as they protect the skin’s surface from damage caused by free radicals.

Avoid products containing ingredients like astringent, synthetic fragrances, phthalates, parabens, etc. for healthier skin.

3. Protecting and Shielding:

After treating an individual skin concern, comes locking in the skincare and preventing any more damage by maintaining hydration with a moisturizer and protecting with sunscreen.

For this, the first step is to hydrate and secure with a moisturizer. Daily moisturizing is a must for every age and skin type as the skin loses the ability to hold moisture as we age. You should moisturize with your skin type just like cleansers.

The second step is to use sunscreen for protection against harmful UV rays. No matter what is the season or what day it is, always wear sunscreen because exposure to UV rays can cause acne, dullness of skin, sunburn, or even cancer. You may use a sunscreen of SPF 50+.

You can choose a product that does both. It is easier to cut down on products of minimalist skincare routine that way.
